Back from New Zealand

We had a fantastic time in New Zealand and yes I did do the Canyon Swing - Here is proof! Yes that is me, after a lot of coaxing that I really could throw myself off a cliff! The actual step off was scary but once you were swinging around the canyon it was fine.

New Zealand has so much to offer and is so incredibly diverse. The scenery can and did take your breath away. From the moment we left our house to the moment we got to my brother-in-laws house was 23 hours and the kids did surprisingly great. Although can I just say it is a little disturbing when the airline staff bring you the child life vests and say "just in case we go down in the water". Not a great thought as you are about to take off on the runway.

There is so much to do and see in NZ, we cruised through fjords, climbed glaciers, strolled through rainforest, played in oceans, jet boated through river canyons, luged down mountains amongst many other things. The country is vast and uncrowded, amazingly uncrowded and a big proportion of their income is from tourists.

For me personally it was like going back to the UK 30 years ago. (Apart from the amazing scenery), there was so many things there that was British, old British cars, even the playgrounds had equipment that I remember playing with and on when I was young. So on that note I am leaving you with my favorite memory of NZ.

The scenery must have been amazing! I'm so glad that you had a wonderful trip. So cool that you did the canyon swing. I can't imagine how exciting that must have been.

What a great family vacation! The 23 hour traveling doesn't sound too appealing to me but sounds like it was worth it! Great photos too!

I'm so glad you all had so much fun. I was telling Matt about all your photos last night. We once did a 24 long trip - from Philly to South Brazil. Not fun, and we didn't have kids then! (though I was pregnant, which didn't help my fatigue!). I definitely want to go there now - thanks for sharing with us AND welcome home!

You are a brave woman! No way I could do that. And no one would be coaxing me since my husband is just as big of a fraidy cat as me! Once in Italy, we took a cable car up to a great spot to view the Swiss Alps. The minute we started to gain altitude, we looked at each other in panic thinking, "wait - why did we do this - we're afraid of heights!" Then we started cracking up about half way up when we realized that we would have to do the whole thing all over again to get back down. Then I pointed to a sign that said "don't rock the cable car" and Chris looked warily at the two other passengers in the tiny space and whispered to me, "if anyone rocks this cable car, I will take them down and beat the shit out of them." I don't think he was kidding. Love teh pictures!

*sigh* it looks sooo beautiful, it might even be a little bit more beautiful than Vancouver, although that is hard to imagine, I may have to visit NZ myself to check it out.
Welcome home Sims Team! we've missed you!! xoxox
