I wanted to bring you the 5 craziest things we have been asked since we have been here in descending order.
5. Do you know ________ they are from the UK? (asked by oh so many people).
NO! There are 56 million people in the UK!
4. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK? (asked every year around this time by random people).
NO! Hellooooo! Pretty sure this holiday is only in North America.
3. Do you celebrate Christmas in the UK? (asked once by a colleague).
That would be YES!
2. What does UK stand for Ukraine? (I thought ATT was a global communications company - may need some staff training on this).
That would be NO it stands for the United Kingdom.
And the one you have been waiting for ...
1. I didn't know they spoke English in England. (YES this one is for you Subway girl from Morgan Hill, 9 years ago)
Apparently we do! England, English there is quite a resemblance don't you think?
Oh and I've eaten about an eighth of the chocolate, just in case you wondered.

If it makes you feel any better....the folks from the US are often amazed that we Canadians still live in igloos & ride dog sleds to work....jeez!
Whenever I got asaked that stuid question about 'knowing' someone's friend/relative in the UK, I would always say: oh, the lady with the hair? about this long...? lovely eyes? oh yes, nice lady....
Amazing how many people were gullible enough to fall for that!!
My sister came to visit us in Poland and was asked by a coworker, "Where is PO - Land?" She said, "Um, Nazi Germany invaded it and started WWII. Didn't you ever take world history?" Apparently not though.
I have to give credit to the person who asked about Ukraine though. At least they'd heard of another country:).
I grew up in Texas, but I was born in Australia. I get asked all kinds of questions about both of those. Usually it's "You don't sound like you're from Texas (or Australia)." No, of course not. I sound like an American. Texans do not all sound like hillbillies. And Australians who grow up in Texas just sound American. Sorry.
Okay... At the risk of you blogging about my stupid question... Here goes? What does the United Kingdom mean, exactly? Is it just another word for England? Or does UK encompass something else? I've never been too sure about this, and I figure now is as good a time as any to ask, since you're already annoyed with stupid questions!!!
*ducking*
Rachel - you know I actually nearly did put this in the post. UK or the United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain is made up of 3 England, Scotland and Wales.
actually, you don't really speak REAL english, just queen's english. and sometimes i have no idea what you're saying.
just being a cheeky american :)
LOLOLOLOLOL!
This post was totally hysterical!
LOLOLOLOLOL!
In a sad sort of way....
LOLOLOLOLOL!
I remember being out with you and someone asking if you were from Australia when they heard your British accent...
I remember one New York guy in London laughing at the Irish accent and saying "You guys, your accents are far out...I mean, where do you get it from?"...
Uh...ok...right...
Oh, and in London? I always got "You don't sound Australian!" cos the only Australian they'd ever heard was Charlene on freakin' Neighbours and only 3/4rs of the country DOESN'T sound anything like that...
I get asked that "Do you know" question all the time, too. My state has nearly 9 million people. I know every single one of them.
Or, thye will ask if I know where some obscure town is, in a state 2000 miles away.
Oy.
My brother lives in Ireland and he gets all kinds of stupid questions like those. We laugh and then make up more just to bug him. Fun!
Just poking around your site, this post is hilarious! People ARE stupid! lol
Hi,
On moving to Spain I could hardly understand what everyone was saying so thankfully wouldn't have understood the daft questions if there were any!
Cheers, Chloe
